Oh well. I felt like it was a good opportunity, but they apparently had higher qualified candidates. I plan on keeping my ear to the ground, though.

… or is it just my blood pressure?
I’ve noticed that since I’ve started taking blood pressure medication that I’m not nearly as Hot Natured as I once was. I dunno if this is correlation or causation, but it is something I noticed.
I was conducting class last week, and the temperature outside was in the low 40’s Fahrenheit. I came into my classroom and turned on the heat, due to being rather chilly, despite my sweater and turtleneck. As I was starting to feel a bit comfortable, my students let me know that they were being smothered out by the heat. This is the first time this has occurred in my 2-year career as an instructor. Usually I’m the one who is first to be hot, or at least the last to get cold.
I did a bit of research around the ‘net and couldn’t find anything correlating high bloodpressure and being Hot-Natured. I wonder if anyone has conducted a study into that.

What can I NOT say in praise of FreeNAS? It’s quite well put together for a package calling itself version 0.69.
The installer ISO/LiveCD is only 60 Mb, so that it easily fits on even tiny 210mm mini CDRWs. Although it could feasibly run from the LiveCD full-time, it has the option to install to a thumb drive, if your system supports booting from that. This gives the option of using the entire hard drive(s) for data storage.
The distribution is based on FreeBSD 4.6, and has a nice compliment of packages. I’m currently using Samba, Transmission, and FireFly. It has several other packages available, such as a (lighthttpd) web server, iSCSI, NFS, and more. Everything is configured and controlled through a well-thought-out web GUI. I haven’t needed the CLI for anything, but it’s there if I need it.
It seems to fare well in my home media-server environment, though it seems ready for the corporate world, as well. Mine is running on an older Dell Celeron 2.4GHz, with 1GB of RAM, although the memory requirement is a paltry 128MB.
All-in-all, I can’t think of a thing I don’t like about FreeNAS. If you have an old PC or two sitting idle, you could do much worse than putting it/them back to work as a FreeNAS server.

I need to write/find an intermediary for my twitter RSS feed in my side panel. I’m pretty sure that most readers aren’t going to be interested in my typically out-of-context @-replies.
I’ll probably just make/find/remix a yahoo pipe to do the deed. If I can’t figure out a way to do that, I’ll scramble something together in PHP.
EDIT: That was easy enough. My pipe can be found at http://pipes.yahoo.com/jachee/atlesstwitter if you wanna tweak the first component and use it for filtering @replies out of your own twitter RSS feed.

At Havard’s suggestion, I’ve installed the iPhone WordPress app, and can now post from where ever I am, whenever the mood strikes.
Let’s see how this looks.

The blog is really starting to come together. I’ve got my theme picked out, though that’s subject to change. I’ve edited the About Me page, above, linked in my twitter account into the sidebar, and started thinking of categories.
That does leave a few things left to do: Read the rest of this entry »
